Heli Trekking in Nepal
Nepal is home to some of the highest peaks in the world including the highest, Everest. For those who may not have the time or inclination to trace Sir Edmund Hillary’s footsteps to enjoy the magnificent beauty of the world’s highest mountain, there is now the option to get up close from the comfort of an aircraft seat. Departing very early in the morning when the skies are clear and the air still, small aircraft with up to 16 seats offer scenic flights out of Kathmandu allowing their passengers to appreciate the sheer beauty of the magnificent Himalaya, with the climax of this one hour flight being spectacular views of Everest.
A more intimate experience, and one of the most exclusive activities in Nepal, is a helicopter flight to Everest Base Camp from Kathmandu. You will be accompanied on the flight by an Everest summiteer, who will share their intimate knowledge of the region with you. You will fly up between the mountains, over Everest Base Camp with views of the Khumbu icefall, then cross the Cho La Pass which is situated at an altitude of 5,595 metres and pass over the famed and sacred Gokyo Lake before landing at Kongde, situated at an altitude of 4,250 metres. Here you will enjoy a breakfast against a backdrop of magnificent mountain views. You then return to Lukla to take on fuel before flying back to Kathmandu.
